Folklore Museum K. Krystalli
In 1997 the Community Council of the Community of Syracuse decided to create a Folklore Museum and Library in the house of the poet Kostas Krystallis. The poet’s house had passed into the ownership of the merchant of Preveza, Thomas K. Katsanou. But in 1950, another Syracuse, a fur trader in Paris, George V. Boutas, a great benefactor of Syracuse, came to his hometown, bought the poet’s house from its new owner and donated it to the Community. The Museum’s committee appealed to Syracuses everywhere and asked them to donate whatever old things they had for the enrichment of the Museum. Thus, since 2002, the ground floor has functioned as a folklore museum, and the first floor as a library with many remarkable volumes.
The Traditional House of E. Fotiadou
The traditional house in Syrakos is the house of Kostas Avdikos, with all his possessions, heirlooms of 150 years of priceless value that his granddaughter, Ermineia Fotiadou, offered as a donation to her beloved village to function as a museum. In this museum one can admire objects of our popular culture as well as objects brought from abroad as well as awards and memorabilia of the Continental Folklore Club “Krystallis”. He will also see French newspapers, a fact that surprised the foreign tourists of Syracuse. This museum will be the ark of the tradition and culture of Syracuse and will contribute, so that the coming generations get to know the folk art, the culture, the history, the authenticity and the way of life of their ancestors. With this offer, the donor showed the greatness of her soul and her name was written next to the names of so many other great donors of our village.
