2o SYRRAKO TRAIL RUN 2018

PRESS RELEASE

2ου SYRRAKOY TRAIL RUN

On the afternoon of Sunday, July 8, the curtain closed on the 2nd Syrrako Trail Run, which was completed with absolute success in Syrrako and was held under the auspices of the Region of Epirus and the Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka. At the celebration that followed after the awards ceremony, all participants, runners, volunteers and organizers had the opportunity to rejoice and celebrate the event, since the Syrrako Trail Run proves that apart from the purely competitive part, it is a celebration of youth and not only, which combines history and culture with the sporting ideal.

The hostess of the whole event for the second year was the 2004 Syracuse Gold Olympian and member of the organizing committee Athanasia Tsoumeleka who, together with the journalist Areti Stassinou, had also undertaken the presentation of the race to the public, while the television coverage of the race had been undertaken by the Star Channel.

The 154 entries of runners, among them runners of a huge distance, the excellent organization of the race, the excellent impressions of the athletes and attendants and the large participation of volunteers prove that the Syrrako Trail Run now occupies its own place on the map of mountain road races. The 12 km route, although short, turns out to be one of the most difficult routes in Greece which, apart from the rugged terrain and the large altitude difference, combines natural beauties of infinite beauty. The initial results of the matches have already been announced on the match website.

The first winner was the Greek champion and multiple winner Dimitris Theodorakakos of Salomon Hellas who broke the one hour barrier (0:59:55.753) and the first female runner for the second year was Dimitra Tzalakosta of the Arta Runners Association who also broke last year’s own record with a time of 1:14:47 (last year’s time 1:17:47).
