\nIn the presence of the President of the Parliament of the Greeks Konstantinos Tasoulas, who
\nhe also announced the start of the work of the deputies of Ioannina Stavrou
\nKalogiannis and Meropis Tzoufis, of the Epirus Alexandrou District Governor
\nKahrimanis and the mayors of North Tzoumerka Yiannis Sendele and Kentrikon
\nTzoumerkon Christos Hasiakos, the open scientific event was held
\ntwo-day event with the theme “Syrrako 1821, 200 years since the Revolution”, the
\nWeekend 30-31 July 2022 in Syracuse.
\nThe day was co-organized by the Municipality of North Tzoumerka and the Center
\nStudy, Promotion and Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage
\nSirrakou N.P.D.D. “Georgios Gianniotis”, under the auspices of the Region
\nEpirus, as part of a wider program, which received its approval
\n“Greece 2021” Committee and aims to highlight its fact
\nRevolution of Syracuse in 1821, as well as his participation in the struggle
\nof Independence. The two-day event was completed by the screening of relevant excerpts
\ndocumentary, approved by the “Greece 2021” committee and
\nwas financed by the “Antonis Tritsis” program.
\nThe events began on Saturday morning with a memorial service in the Sanctuary
\nChurch of Agios Nikolaos and followed by the laying of wreaths in the area of
\n“Heroes”.
\nThe Speaker of the Parliament congratulated the organizers of the conference, expressing the
\nhis joy and satisfaction, because, in a way, he “exploited” his relationship
\nSirrakos with the “Greece 2021” Committee, following a relevant request from the President
\nof T. Community of Syracuse G. Vaitsi, as a result of which the events will be included
\nin the context of the reflection actions for the two centuries since the birthday
\noutbreak of the Greek Revolution.
\nReferences to the work and personality of the Syracuse politician and activist
\nIoannis Kolettis, the country’s first parliamentary prime minister, did
\nin their greetings, New Democracy MP Stavros Kalogiannis
\nand the Regional Governor Alekos Kahrimanis, while to the poet and prose writer Kostas
\nKrystalli, also born in Syracuse, said the SYRIZA MP
\nMeropi Tsoufi, sending a message of optimism.
\nFor his part, the mayor of Northern Tzoumerka, Yiannis Sendeles, stood
\nin the choice of the Municipality to focus on the revolution of Syracos and the
\nKalarriton, but also in the contribution of the pre-revolutionary struggles with the
\nhighlighting the heroic figure of Katsantonis. He also pointed out the difficult
\npre-work of the preparation of the program “Syrrako 1821-200 years from
\nthe Revolution” by the organizational and scientific committee as well as the
\nthorough selection procedure of the coefficients both of the scientific one
\nof the two-day program but also of the historical documentary.<\/p>\n
In the program “Syrrako 1821 – 200 years since the Revolution” and in all
\nrelated actions that took place from the summer of 2021 up to and including
\nAugust 2022 by the bodies of Syracuse, the president was finally mentioned
\nof T. Syracos Community George Vaitsis.
\nHe pointed out that Syracuse, a place with a special and rich culture
\nidentity, has given special importance to highlighting and recording it
\nof its history over the last 30 years, through the Links, of the former community
\nand the Spiritual Center and then through the North Municipality
\nTzoumerko and the N.P.D.D. “Georgios Gianniotis”. He mentioned the function
\nof Endowments and actions for the utilization of assets
\ndata of Syracuse through the N.P.D.D. and in closing he referred to the great one
\neffort of the Community and the Municipality to activate it
\n“Keep” program that will help to save and preserve it
\nof Syracuse’s architectural heritage, which today is the strongest
\nelement of connection with his story and asked the president of the Parliament
\nto mediate so that the individual requests of T. Community of Syracuse
\nto the competent Ministry to find a response.
\nWith their presence at the beginning of the work of the two-day conference, they honored
\nalso, the deputy regional governors Agni Nakou, Haris Lazanis and Odysseas Potsis, o
\npresident of the Chamber of Ioannina Dimitris Dimitriou, the former rector
\nof the Athens University of Economics Konstantinos Gatsios, regional and
\nmunicipal councilors, presidents of T. Communities, etc.
