The Building of Goura
The building of Goura, beyond serving a need, also reveals to us the spirit of architecture that the settlement had. Until today, it remains the most wonderful, the most excellent architectural creation in the settlement.A technological marvel of the time, it gave its name to the entire village that developed into the social, administrative and commercial center of the settlement. It has the shape of a square. On three sides there are wide and high uniform arches. The northern side is built and here the three stone taps are embedded. , which ends in a huge perfect circle. From the circumference of the circle begins the building of the dome with a type of pumice stone, called Giguara. its masterful perfection and impresses with its slight curvature. The roof of the building is the same as the other roofs. A flawless building, untouchable in technique and in solidity, without anything striking or unnecessary. It is characterized by beauty and harmony. Mr. Christodoulos Michael, in charge of the dating department of “DIMOKRITOS”, estimated the building of “Goura” 580 + – 130 years from today. The opinion was given on 4-23-2004. According to her, “Goura” was built in 1424. But it may have been built somewhere between 1294 and 1554.
Square of Statues
