The Union of Football Clubs of Epirus (EPUS) was founded in 1952 by the football clubs of the Prefectures of Ioannina, Arta, Preveza and Lefkada. However, in addition to the clubs of the above Prefectures, the clubs of the Vonitsa region of the Etoloakarnania Prefecture (AMBRAKIKOS Vonitsa and PALIAMPELA) participated in its championships. On August 11, 1977 from G.S. of E.P.O. the creation and operation of the 1st National Amateur Category (4th National) was decided. On August 26, 1977, which date throughout time proves to be historic for the future of E.P.S. EPIROU, from E.P.O. a decision is made for participation in the championship Eighty (80) teams in Four (4) groups. In 1982, the Unions, E.P.S., were founded and operated autonomously. ARTAS, E.P.S. PREVEZAS – LEFKADAS and of course the E.P.S. Prefecture of Ioannina which retained and still holds the distinctive initial title E.P.S. EPIROU., as the “mother” Union, so the three champion teams now participate in the 1st National Amateur League.
Stavraetos Syracou in its first football season 1977-1978 will compete with a temporary board of directors that was filed and recognized in the first instance court of Ioannina. The team’s competitive duties began in the 1977-1978 football season from the then third amateur division of the local league. From his 1st participation in the local division (which, due to the small number of clubs that made up the league, would start in the Spring), he will emerge as champion in the division and will move up to the next one (2nd Amateur). The team of Stavraetis Sirrakos will play its first match on March 26, 1978, on a Sunday against the team of Peribleptos, which will win with a score of 2-1. The first general assembly of the Syracuse Athletic Association will be held on August 3, 1978 in the presence of 51 Syracuses and the late Telemachos Karamanis will be declared the 1st president. In the 1984-1985 season he will compete for the first time in the then 4th National Division since the previous year he was champion in the championship of the amateur associations of the Prefecture of Ioannina. However, he will not succeed and will immediately return to the A’ amateur category of the local championship.
He will return to the big league (although he flirted with it many times) in the 2005-2006 season, where he will remain for three consecutive seasons. Of course, in the third year (period 2008-2009) he will not come down to compete due to severe financial problems. In total, the Stavraetos Syracos team from its foundation (1977-1978 season) until the 2016-2017 competition season, will compete: 4 years in the 4th National Division 16 years in the 1st Division of the E.P.S.H.P. 14 years in the 2nd category of the E.P.S.H.P. 5 years in the 3rd category of the E.P.S.H.P. In his overall course, he will also emerge as a cup winner of the EPSHP. He will compete in a total of five finals where he will emerge victorious (cup winner) in two. As a cup institution, under the responsibility of EPSIP, the Ioannina Amateur Cup final is held for the first time in the 1981-82 season when the Union operates autonomously.
In the National Stadium of Ioannina, the final was held for the first time on 19-3-1986 with the teams Katsikas-Stavraetos 2-2 par. 3-3 pen. 4-2. Stavraetos Syracos will finally win the cup of Amateur Associations of the Greek Greek Association of Greece, in the 1991-1992 season, where they will prevail with a score of 3-0 in overtime (0-0 in the Greek league) of Olympiakos Botanikos, in the season 2006-2007 beating the Polynikous team of the institution of A.O. Anatolis with a score of 0-1. His appearances in the final where he will be defeated will be in the 1995-1996 seasons where he will be defeated by Thyella Eleusas with a score of 1-0 and the 2005-2006 football season where he will again be defeated by Doxa Kranoulas with a score 5-2.
A black page in his history is the dissolution of the team in the year 2008-2009 where, although he competes in the 4th National Division of Greece, he will not come down to compete due to financial problems. The following year, although he has been relegated to the 1st amateur category of the E.P.S.H.P. championship. again he will not compete. By law, the old team of Stavraetis Syracos, which still belonged to its former president and financier and was not declared to compete in the local leagues (thus losing categories), legally exists for another three years. resulting in its final dissolution.
The Syrrakos in the Spring of 2009 they re-founded the team under the name “SIRRAKO SPORTS CLUB”. A.O. Syracos will be renamed again to New Cross Eagle of Syracos four years later on 30-09-2013. Since then he has been competing in the 2nd and 3rd division of the local league. The 2017-2018 season will find him again in the 3rd Amateur category of the E.P.S.H.P.
