Municipality of North Tzoumerka

The North Tzoumerko Municipality is one of the eight municipalities of the Ioannina Regional Unit of the Epirus Region. It was established with the implementation of the “Kallicratis” program in 2011 from the amalgamation of the pre-existing municipalities of Katsanohoria, Pramanto and Tzoumerko, and the communities of Bathypedou, Matsouki, Kalarrito and Syracos. The seat of the municipality of North Tzoumerka is Pramanta, in the center of Tzoumerkohoria in the Prefectures of Ioannina and Arta. They are built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Strogoula peak, it has always been the administrative and financial center of the entire surrounding area, and a town with a rich tradition and history. The municipality of Boreion Tzoumerko extends to 254.94 sq. km., it is the smallest of the Regional Unit of Ioannina and covers a mountainous, mostly part, area of particular natural beauty. It extends from the borders of the Ioannina basin to the ridges of Tzoumerki and Peristeri and is crossed by the Kalarritiko and Arachthos rivers. The place is rich in history, tradition and culture and its economy is based both on the primary sector and on tourist activities. According to the recent census of 2011, the permanent population of the Municipality of North Tzoumerka is 5,714 inhabitants, i.e. it has 0, 05% of the total permanent population of Greece and is the 274th (out of 325 in total) municipality in order of ranking based on its permanent population. The municipality of North Tzoumerka is the smallest of the Regional Unit of Ioannina. By municipal unit, the permanent population is as follows: Vathypedou 56, Kalarriton 192, Katsanochorion 2,181, Matsoukiou 455, Pramanton 1,774, Syracou 270 and Tzoumerkon 756. The real or De Facto population of the Municipality is 6,024 inhabitants (272nd in order of ranking). Finally, its legal (citizen) population is 11,064 inhabitants, (253rd in order of ranking).

Yiannis Sendeles is the Mayor of Northern Tzoumerka since January 1, 2011 – today. He was elected in November 2010 with a percentage of 53.06% from the first round against 36.8% of Ioannis Argyris. He was re-elected in the May 2014 elections with 88.8% against 11.1% for Anastasia Kitsou. He was born in 1960 in Pramanta, Ioannina Prefecture, to Athanasios and Vaia Sendele. He finished elementary and high school in Pramanta and high school in the “Zosimaia” School of Ioannina. In 1978 he was admitted to the School of Naval-Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, from where he graduated in 1984. He then attended programs with an emphasis on new Technologies and Informatics. He speaks English and German. He has worked as a Mechanologist-Engineer in the private sector and the O.S.E. Today he is an executive of the Technical Service of the Hospital “G. Hatzikosta”. He had direct contact and experience in the management of National and European Programs and the Study-Supervision of Public Projects. He has been active in trade unions in his workplaces. He was involved with Local Government for the first time in 1998, when he was elected Municipal Councilor, head of the Major Opposition. In October 2006 he was elected Mayor of Pramanto. He is married to Xenia Markou, Appellant, and they have two children.

MUNICIPAL AND LOCAL COUNCIL OF SIRRAKO

According to the results of the municipal and regional elections of 2014, Sirrako is represented in the municipal council of the Municipality of North Tzoumerka by two councilors, the κ. Zalokosta Anna and the κ. Christos Skamnelos.

It has a three-member local council consisting of president Mr. Giza Nikolaos and two members of the local council, the Mrs. Sioya Alice and the Mr. Bazio Spyridon.

In the Regional Council of Epirus and in the Regional Unit of Ioannina, she is elected from Sirrako, Mrs. Kalliopi (Kelly) Karamanis.
