In the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the event will take place for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kostas Krystallis, the poet of the mountain and the pond, organized by the Municipality of North Tzoumerko and the Local Community of Syracuse in collaboration with the Syracuse Associations.
Ο Pr. Pavlopoulos will be in Sirrakos on Saturday, July 21, responding to the invitation of the Mayor of Northern Tzoumerko, Yiannis Sendele, to their meeting, during the visit of the President of the Republic to the Museum of Contemporary Art “Theodoros Papagiannis” in Elliniko.
The event will begin at 11 am with a Doxology at the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos, patron of Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina, while it will be followed at 11.30 by a memorial service and laying of a wreath on the statue of the poet.
At 12 noon, the unveiling of the bust of the poet, crafted by the sculptor, professor emeritus of the School of Fine Arts Theodoros Papagiannis, will take place at the entrance of the “Kostas Crystal” Conference Center.
In the framework of the event, the conference with the theme “2018, year of Costas Krystallis – 150 years since the birth of the poet” is included. At its opening, the poet Michalis Ganas will recite poems by K. Krystallis and then the authors Pantelis Boukalas and Vassilis Gourogiannis will speak on the topics “Krystallis and Municipal Song” and “When the poetic body becomes aura”, respectively. Writer-actress Eleni Zioga will read an excerpt from a short story by the Syracuse writer and the conference will close with a talk on “Kostas Krystallis as a Prose Writer” by literary critic Vangelis Hatzivasileiou.
This will be followed by a short traditional music and dance program by the dance departments of the Associations of Syracuse, while in the Conference Center there will be a photography exhibition by Vangelis Giotopoulos on the subject of the movement of the livestock farmers of Syracuse to the winters. At 1.45 in the afternoon an official lunch will be served.
The organizing committee of the events consists of Alexis Ippokratis, Avdikos Evangelos, Gartzonika Eleftheria, Maglaras Manolis, Dalaoutis Spyridon and Skamnelos Christos.
A press conference will be held on Thursday, July 19, at 12:00 at the PED offices.
