On the afternoon of Sunday, June 23, the curtain closed on the 3rd Syrrako Trail Run, which was completed with complete success in Syrrako and was held under the auspices of the Region of Epirus and the Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka.
At the celebration that followed after the awards ceremony, all participants, runners, volunteers and organizers had the opportunity to rejoice and celebrate the event, since the Syrrako Trail Run proves that apart from the purely competitive part, it is a celebration of youth and not only, which combines history and culture with the sporting ideal.
The hostess of the event for the third year was the 2004 Syracuse Gold Olympian and member of the organizing committee Athanasia Tsoumelekas who together with the journalist Areti Stassinou had also undertaken the presentation of the race to the public.
The 122 participating runners (115 finishers), the excellent organization of the race, the excellent impressions of the athletes and attendants and the large participation of volunteers prove that the Syrrako Trail Run now occupies its own place on the map of mountain road races. The 12 km route, although short, turns out to be one of the most difficult routes in Greece which, apart from the rugged terrain and the large altitude difference, combines natural beauties of infinite beauty.
The first winner was a mountain man. The mountaineer Yiannis Papailias of Fifth Element with a time (1:07:50), lives most of the year on the ridges of Pindos where he maintains a livestock farm. There he trains and participates in the last few years in all major mountain race events!
The first female runner for the third year in a row was Dimitra Tsalokosta of the Arta Runners Association who broke her own record last year with a time of 1:10:39 (last year’s time was 1:14:47).
