The Summer Events Program of Syracuse took place.

Many events and activities were held again this summer in Syracos by the local community and agencies.

The curtain opened with the first mountain road race, syrrako trail run, which took place on July 9 with great success, as demonstrated by the presence of 187 athletes as well as by the excellent impressions that this event left on everyone.

The next event in Syracos was the day-long festival in the courtyard of the church of the prophet Elias, immediately after the divine service which was held in the presence of the most respected Metropolitan of Ioannina Mr. Maximus. Then the church committee had taken care of the food and drinks, which it was all free and the approximately 350 people from Syracuse who attended feasted to the sounds of the traditional orchestra.

On the morning of August 5th, the voluntary cleaning of the village took place for the third year in a row, with a very large participation of Syracians of all ages and many young friends of Syracuse, showing in this way their love for our place.

In the afternoon, the opening of the painting exhibition of our compatriot Giorgos Rizos took place at the conference center, where the exhibits remained there for the public until August 15.

In the evening, the traditional festival was held in the square to celebrate the Transfiguration of the Savior.

On Monday, August 7, in the morning, a day was held at the conference center with the aim of informing the people of Syracuse about Diabetes Mellitus, measuring sugar and distributing sugar meters in collaboration with the general hospital of Ioannina G.Hatzikostas

The events continued with the presentation by the DIPETHE of Ioannina on Wednesday, August 9 in the evening in the central square, of the project ”THE GREEKS” which was attended by a large number of patriots.

On August 10th, our young Syracuseans aged up to 10 had the opportunity to have fun at the event entitled “from seed to bread”, organized for them at the Conference Center, with fairy tales and games that they also participated in.

On the morning of Friday, August 11, an event of honor and memory was held for the deceased Syracuseans of the 1940s by S.S. Prevezas

On the same day in the afternoon, the presentation of the new website of Syracuse took place at the Conference Center.

On Saturday, August 12, two more days were held at the convention center. The first one in the morning which had as its subject and purpose the training of citizens by rescue trainers of the E.K.A.B. Ioannina on first aid.

The second took place in the evening, causing emotion to those present with the honoring of the first editorial committee of Antilala and the reference to the 35 years of Antilala. One of the presenters was the well-known journalist Vasilios Adamopoulos, with roots from Syracuse.

On Sunday 13 August in the morning, the organization of the march by the Sirrakos Mountaineering Club included a visit to the neighboring village, Kalarrites, from the now maintained path and a return from the Kouissa mill and the ascent of Patza.

In the afternoon of the same day, the second event had a large participation of high school and high school children in the conference center to compete in the now established student competition “Greek Speech”. This year there was also a cash prize for the winners courtesy of the Municipality of North Tzoumerka.

On the 14th of August and the eve of the 15th of August, a memorial service was held followed by the laying of wreaths to the heroes and benefactors of Syracuse, then followed by the People’s Assembly in the central square with a report from the local and municipal authorities as well as a presentation of opinions by the patriots and later started the traditional festival that lasted until the morning hours just before the bell of Panagia rang.

On the day of August 15, the summer events closed with the festival in honor of Panagia in the central square of our village.
